FOCUS ON

The combed cotton, or ally for comfort

Softer, stronger, more durable: combed cotton has it all.

Cotton is one of the most widely used natural fibers in the textile industry. But when we talk about combed cotton, we are referring to an improved, higher-quality version of this material. In this article, discover what combed cotton is, its specific advantages, and why it is at the heart of our sock manufacturing process.

What is combed cotton?

Combed cotton is a cotton fiber that has undergone additional mechanical processing after spinning. Unlike conventional cotton, combed cotton is passed through a machine called a “comb” that removes short fibers and impurities and perfectly aligns the long fibers. This process produces a yarn that is:

  • Softer
  • Stronger
  • More uniform

It is this superior quality that makes it a preferred choice for garments worn next to the skin, such as socks.

The advantages of combed cotton

Unparalleled softness

Thanks to its long, perfectly aligned fibers, combed cotton is naturally softer than standard cotton. It feels pleasant against the skin, making it ideal for sensitive feet.

Better durability

Removing short fibers makes the fabric stronger. Combed cotton socks are more resistant to wear and tear, washing, and deformation.

Smoother appearance

Combed cotton gives a cleaner, more uniform finish, which is particularly appreciated in high-quality socks, both for their comfort and their appearance.

Less pilling

Combing significantly reduces the risk of pilling, which extends the life of the product and keeps it looking new for longer.

An ideal material for everyday socks

Socks are put through their paces every day: repeated rubbing, moisture, frequent washing... That's why combed cotton is such a great choice. In addition to being comfortable to wear, it offers excellent durability, making it perfect for everyday use, whether at work, at home, or on the go.

Why we use combed cotton for our socks

At BILLYBELT, the vast majority of our socks are made from combed cotton. This choice is no accident: it embodies our commitment to offering sustainable, comfortable, and stylish products designed to accompany our customers day after day, without compromising on quality.

Combed cotton provides the ideal base for creating socks that last, retain their softness and shape, and ensure optimal comfort even after numerous washes. But to go even further, we add a touch of craftsmanship that makes all the difference: hand-stitching. This meticulous technique removes any excess thickness at the toes, ensuring invisible but very real comfort from the moment you put them on.

And because certain areas are naturally subject to more wear and tear, the toes and heels of our socks are reinforced with nylon threads. This discreet but essential finish limits premature wear, prevents holes from appearing, and considerably extends the life of our socks, while maintaining their finesse and aesthetic appeal.

Combed cotton, a choice of quality

Choosing combed cotton means opting for a natural, high-quality material designed to last and provide optimal comfort every day. Thanks to a process that removes short fibers and impurities, combed cotton offers a smoother, more even, and more durable fabric. This superior quality reduces wear and irritation, while ensuring unparalleled softness and breathability.
